Khofifah Equates Prabowo and Gibran as Friends of the Prophet, Utter Nonsense
It's disheartening to see prominent figures of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) aligning with Prabowo Gibran, the vice-presidential candidate number 02. Ideally, NU figures should uphold a healthy and knowledgeable mindset, and their words should serve as an example for the community. Khofifah Indar Parawansa, serving as the Governor of East Java since February 13, 2019, and formerly as the Minister of Social Affairs of Indonesia from October 27, 2014, to January 17, 2018, is a public figure with a known track record. However, Khofifah's attempt to liken Prabowo Subianto to the Prophet's companion, Sayyidina Abu Bakar Ash Shiddiq, and Gibran Rakabuming Raka to Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib, is preposterous.
Does Khofifah not reflect on who Abu Bakar Ash Shiddiq was? Abu Bakar, also known as Abu Bakar Ash Shiddiq, was an early adopter of Islam and a key companion of Prophet Muhammad SAW, supporting the Prophet's mission to spread Islam, the Mercy to All the Worlds. He was the first caliph after the passing of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Abu Bakar earned the title Ash Shiddiq for boldly and honestly confirming what the Prophet experienced. Another reason for this title was the Prophet's firsthand observation of Abu Bakar's daily life, reflecting his exemplary character, courage, and honesty towards the people.
Has Prabowo Subianto demonstrated the virtues of good character, honesty, and courage in defending Islam? There is no evidence of Prabowo being a staunch follower of his faith, adept in reading the Quran, leading prayers in the mosque, or adhering to Islamic teachings. Has Prabowo wholeheartedly practiced Islamic Sharia correctly? Is Prabowo truthful in his daily life? If so, why has Prabowo not revealed the whereabouts of the 13 missing student activists in 1998? Can Prabowo's statements be justified before the public? The answer is a resounding no. Nowadays, it's challenging to find leaders resembling the Prophet's companions. Khofifah's attempt to equate Prabowo with Abu Bakar Ash Shiddiq is unwarranted, especially considering Khofifah's academic title. Can an academic and religious title not represent an intelligent and upright personality? Khofifah's excessive political zeal and unwavering support for Prabowo lead to a distorted and irrational mindset, making her appear foolish in the eyes of the public. Someone unable to think rationally is like a short circuit in the brain. How can it not be short-circuited when the God-given intellect is not used as intended?
Khofifah also personifies Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a millennial friend of the Prophet, namely Sayyidina Ali. This comparison is nonsensical and tends towards ignorance if one understands who Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib and Gibran are.
Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib, born in Mecca on Friday, the 13th of Rajab, around the year 599 CE, was the youngest of four siblings. He was known for never worshipping idols but consistently prostrating to Allah throughout his life. Hence, Ali bin Abi Thalib was given the title Karramallahu Wajhah for never engaging in polytheism or associating others with Allah. He maintained regular prayers and demonstrated polite and courteous manners towards everyone.
Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib was intelligent and astute, unmatched in his time. Despite his brilliance, he was humble, even to Prophet Muhammad, who was an unlettered person. As a result, the Prophet assigned Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib as his scribe due to his intellect, earning him the nickname "Gate of Knowledge" or "Babul Ilmi."
Can Gibran Rakabuming Raka's intelligence be equated with Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib's? Absolutely not. The comparison is absurd and illogical. Even a child can see Khofifah, with her doctorate, failing to think critically. There's a short circuit in Khofifah's mind due to her excessive fanaticism for her favored presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
Khofifah goes on to liken Gibran to a millennial friend of the Prophet, Sayyidina Ali. Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Thalib was born in Mecca, and he never worshipped idols, consistently prostrating to Allah throughout his life. Gibran, with the nickname "liar," is far from Sayyidina Ali's level of honesty. The public is aware of Gibran's capabilities, a privilege he enjoys due to being the President's son.
The author is perplexed by NU's leader becoming less valuable with age, compromising her conscience for political gain. May Allah forgive His servant for this lapse in judgment.
