Whoa, there's this wild photo of Bulog rice making the rounds, causing quite a stir. Are Candidate 02 catching a lucky break?
The showdown between presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 election is getting intense. The buzz about the possible resignation of the vice-presidential candidate from Jokowi's cabinet has the public on edge, eagerly awaiting confirmation.
Last Sunday's vice-presidential debate is still the talk of the town. Gibran's attitude is under the spotlight, considered disrespectful and downplaying the other vice-presidential candidates. Gibran's moves in that debate got the public all worked up.
The political scene got even hotter when President Jokowi dropped the bomb that the President can campaign and take sides. It's getting more exciting. To spice up the political tension in the country, there's now this photo of Bulog rice causing a commotion.
Recently, a photo spread like wildfire on social media—Bulog rice, 5-kilogram pack, tagged with a sticker of the presidential and vice-presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
This stirred controversy because the Bulog rice is part of the Government's Supply and Food Price Stabilization (SPHP) and comes from the Government's Rice Reserves (CBP).
With the campaign sticker slapped on the Bulog rice bag, it seems like Candidate 02 might be getting some extra luck. People think this Bulog rice is linked to Candidate 02.
The discovery of Bulog rice with a sticker of the presidential and vice-presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo-Gibran, is accused of politicizing social assistance or "bansos." Especially since the bigwigs from the party, part of the Indonesia Forward Coalition (KIM) supporting Prabowo-Gibran, had previously claimed that social assistance and direct cash aid (BLT) were from President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
It's not far-fetched for the public to suspect political manipulation of government aid. The suspicion deepened after photos of SPHP Bulog rice with Prabowo-Gibran stickers circulated.
When the state has its obligations, it shouldn't be mixed up with political contests, especially in the context of winning a particular candidate. Sticking campaign stickers on Bulog rice bags might be seen as a sign of budget misuse just before the 2024 elections. Bulog rice, meant for food assistance and SPHP programs, comes from taxpayer money.
Rice that's supposed to reach the final recipient ends up with stickers on the way. It's not a good lesson and becomes a tool for budget misuse. The suspicion of misusing state instruments grows stronger when Jokowi becomes more active in social assistance or rice aid policies.
Jokowi openly claims he can take sides and campaign. During his work visits to various areas, he's seen giving the two-finger salute. This could be evidence of the misuse of social assistance.
It might even escalate into a crime, claiming government aid as one of the presidential campaign programs. The public expects the government budget, funded by the people, to be used for the welfare of the people, not for the political interests of specific parties.
